So, I’ve written a few times about hair. My children’s hair, my hair and how other people react to it.
You see, afro hair can be quite a talking point. From the many different styles we can embrace, to how people think it should be ‘managed’, to how those reactions can impact people’s identify and self worth. There’s a lot that can be said about it.
In the spirit of trying something new, I’ve teamed up with my friend , Lynda, blogger at Mane of Your Own, to launch a podcast of the same name. Each fortnight we’ll be discussing a different topic related to afro hair.
Our first episode is out now (eek!). As well as telling our own hair stories, we’ve opened the floor to our mothers. A chance to hear about their experiences of having afro hair in the 60’s and 70’s and bringing up black and mixed race daughters in the 80’s.
If there’s a topic you think we should cover in the future, feel free to get in touch.
You can check it by searching for Mane of Your Own on iTunes and Spotify.
Listen, share, comment and let us know if there are any topics you’d like us to discuss!
Keep your fingers crossed x
